In Your Shoes
In Your Shoes is a project whereby individuals and groups can donate shoes, especially second-hand, wearable shoes, while at the same time seeking to divert them from ending up in landfill.
Kids Off The Kerb collects and sorts the shoes and then either distributes them to disadvantaged individuals and communities through collaboration with other local charities or exports them to developing countries in order to provide affordable shoes to needy individuals and communities. Importantly, disadvantaged and at risk young people are provided with training and employment opportunities throughout the collection and sorting process.
In Your Shoes was first piloted throughout several schools in Melbourne during Term 3 of 2008. In 2009, the project was enhanced by the participation of a number of volunteers from the University of Melbourne’s Student Ambassador Leadership Program who have helped expand the project into almost 50 schools.
